I had quite a dramatic life change not long after I started this thread - I had been semi-seriously working on moving to another country. I probably would have gotten around to finding a way to script automatic startup but.

The need for manual startup was a negative but it worked. What did you end up using after all? Will Blue Cat PatchWork work well or do you need a combination of PatchWork and Loopback? I have Windows so Rogue Amoeba is not an option for me.Thinking back, I believe I used Audio Hijack for a while. So maybe even when you have found your permanent space you'd still want to use some setup that includes room correction software.

After having tried to deal with one particularly annoying problem in other ways I found that software like ARC can do wonders even in, or maybe especially in, a treated room.

I have a well treated, but not ideal, room. That is a bit annoying as I should not forget to switch it off before a bounce.Īs you already stated MenuBus has some glitches which made me want to not use it for anything professionally. Basically, I'm now running ARC (which I use for correction) in menubus for all audio except my DAW and I run a separate instance of ARC in my DAW. Having to manually start a session before it intercepts the sound is not ideal (I can possibly script this to happen on system startup) but at the price it may be something I'm willing to deal with until either I get a chance to have some Tube Traps made or I'm more permanently settled somewhere I can do proper room treatment (which may or may not include Tube Traps.)The manual start of sessions in Audio Hijack was also a reason for me to look further, but currently I haven't found a better solution. I may look at Soundflower but I really want an all in one application and I don't think Patchwork is worth $100 if I still have to fiddle with Soundflower.ĭoes such an application exist?I think Audio Hijack from Rogue Amoeba should be able to do what you Hijack does seem to do the job. I don't mind paying but $200 is a bit much. But this is an expensive option as each application is $100. I've discovered I can do it with a combination of Rogue Amoeba Loopback and Patchwork.

I thought Blue Cat Patchwork would do the job but the standalone can only route from a system input to the output.

And I believe it is no longer in development so one day I expect an OS update to render it non-functional. It is slightly buggy, occasional audio glitches are noticeable. Must work on Mac (and preferably also Windows if possible.) Must be able to route *any* application so it has to be a standalone and not a DAW plugin. I'm looking for something I can use to host VST/AU effects and route any audio application to that before it goes to my sound card. The Loopback/Patchwork combo works great (except that I can't choose a latency above 512 samples in Live which I usually would since I don't often need low latency monitoring.) But the price is a little steep if buying both. Enough that I've put up with the occasional odd glitches. I've gone from creating mixes which sounded completely unbalanced anywhere else to ones which sound mostly OK in other locations, and the sound of other people's music is noticeably improved. But it's my only option right now and for my general listening position it works. Now I know this is the wrong way to fix the problem.

With careful listening to music I know well and using movie dialogue I identified some bad resonances which I have tamed with EQ through menuBUS. I have a crappy mix/listening environment (surprisingly so as I've worked in untreated rooms in various locations and never experienced anything this bad.) I'm renting and not allowed to make modifications, not even putting things on the wall, so proper fixes which require anything done to the room are out of the question. I should probably have explained they why of my request.
